Qualifying Life Events (QLE)

A Qualifying Life Event (QLE) allows you to change benefits outside Open Enrollment. These events typically involve a significant change in your personal situation.

  • Marriage
  • Divorce / Legal Separation
  • Birth / Adoption
  • Loss of Other Coverage
  • Gain of Other Coverage
  • Reduction in Hours
  • Death of Employee
  • Dependent Ages Out (26)
  • Move
  • Medicaid / CHIP

Click here to learn how Qualifying Life Events (QLEs) work and how certain events that result in a loss of coverage may also trigger COBRA continuation rights.

Important Reminders

  • Benefit changes must be submitted within 30 days of the qualifying event (60 days for Medicaid/CHIP-related events)
  • Supporting documentation is required for all QLEs

Changes are limited to those that are consistent with the qualifying event

If you experience a qualifying life event, be sure to take action promptly to ensure your coverage reflects your needs.
