March Health Awareness Spotlight:
Nutrition, Colorectal Cancer & Kidney Health
March brings attention to three key health priorities — nutrition, colorectal cancer prevention, and kidney health. Here’s what to know and how to take action.
National Nutrition Month
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages individuals and communities to make informed food choices and build positive eating and physical activity habits. Optimal nutrition helps people of all ages stay energized, promote healthy aging, and support immune function.
This year’s theme, “Discover the Power of Nutrition,” reinforces the idea that food fuels everything we do—from staying focused at work to supporting long‑term health and wellbeing.

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a nationwide initiative emphasizing the life‑saving importance of early screening and education. Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer deaths among Americans under 50, a trend that experts did not anticipate until later this decade.
Screening starting at age 45 can dramatically improve outcomes through early detection, which has a 5‑year survival rate above 90% in early‑stage cases.

National Kidney Month
National Kidney Month recognizes the importance of kidney health and aims to increase awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD), which affects over 35 million people in the U.S. CKD is often silent until symptoms become advanced, making early detection essential. This year’s focus encourages individuals to take charge of their kidney health by managing conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits including regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, and stress management.
